Who is Dr. Sonya R. Murray?
Dr. Sonya R. Murray is originally from Boston Massachusetts. Her passion in seeking more knowledge and better education has always started early. When she was accepted to Stanford University to pursue her bachelor degree, her goal became even clearer. Leaving the cozy and historical city of Boston, Dr Murray began her academic and life journey in Palo Alto, California.
Stanford University acted as her first platform in practicing medicine. She was a pre-medical student majoring in Human Biology with a concentration in Health & Disease in Developing Communities. Her time at the university had opened her eyes to the severe lack of medical care access especially among the low income communities.
After she graduated, Dr. Murray started working for Mayfield Community Clinic. The medical facility primarily serves the low-income families in a heavily populated Spanish-speaking population. Her responsibilities comprised of being a Patient Advocate, a Spanish Translator and a Medical Assistant. After three years, Dr. Murray began her medical school at University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in Ohio. After graduation, she returned to California when she was accepted to a Family Medicine internship program at Sutter Hospital UCSF in Santa Rosa, California. Later on, she continued her Family Medicine Residency program at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Riverside, California.
Equipped with knowledge and experience, her desire to help those in need never stopped. She started as a family physician for Riverside County where she provided medical care to thousands of people in numerous outpatient county clinics. At Kaiser Permanente, she was also trained by the physicians in Psychiatry Department. Dr. Murray understood then, being a physician, the patient care was not only about the physical well-being, but also the mental wellness of the patient.
Subsequently, Dr. Murray joined another philanthropic group who focused on serving the low-income communities, Laguna Beach Community Clinic. She also served as the Advisory Committee Member for Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Intervention at Saddleback Community College. She is still currently serving Saddleback Community College students, faculty and staff as one of their family physicians.
Dr. Murray is blessed with a caring husband and two beautiful daughters. While her passion to help others never fades, her family is now her main focus in life. When Dr. Murray arrived at Hybrid MD Urgent Care, we could have not been happier. Her exceptional medical knowledge, her life experience and her genuine care of our patients, made it an easy decision to have Dr. Murray to join Hybrid MD Urgent Care family. We have no doubt that when our patients have the opportunity to meet Dr. Murray, they will understand how lucky we are, to have another genuinely caring physician, who treats her patients just like her family.
